Hanoi Sidewalk Culture project introduces three popular activities on the space of the sidewalk in Hanoi which are: drinking and selling icead tea shop, street beer shop and hair barber by a tree root or by a wall on the pavement that welcome everyone to come and share their stories. Each of these three activities will be depicted in distinguished patterns: the pattern of the vintage dotted cup represents the iced tea shop, the pattern on the beer jar is the spirit of street beer culture, and the stripes pattern together with haircut tools present the corner of a street barber shop.
Through decades, the sidewalk in Hanoi plays an essential role in shaping the street sulture of this city. The sidewalk is a friendly, open-minded space that encloses the gap among different people in Hanoi's society.
Normally, the sidewalk is a space where people can walk safely and the sidewalk is a part of the urban landscape and atmosphere. Especially in Hanoi, the sidewalk is a lively space for many neighbors and families to make a living on the space of the sidewalk.
The sidewalk is also the evidence of how Hanoi street culture is dynamic and diverse. The sidewalk represents many aspects of life in Hanoi: it can be the quick stop for laborers who just need to sip a cup of iced tea and smoke the pipe and then going back to work. Some people chill with their leisure time enjoying the atmosphere of this city and have a robusta-phin coffee.
The sidewalk culture is where anyone can be friends with each other, no matter where you're from, what your job is, how rich you are, etc, things get easier to share and to connect through a cup of tea or through a haircut session.
